Brie Larson Once Took Drastic Action When Told She Took Super Mario Galaxy Too Seriously

Brie Larson may be Captain Marvel in the MCU, but next year she’s officially joining the Nintendo universe. Larson will voice Princess Rosalina in The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie, arriving in 2026. Long before landing the role, Larson was already a huge Super Mario Galaxy fan—so much so that she once kicked her boyfriend out for interrupting her final boss run.

Larson revealed this story in 2020 (via Nintendo Life) during the launch of her YouTube channel. She explained that she became a gamer thanks to Super Mario Bros. and The Little Mermaid on NES—but her obsession peaked with Super Mario Galaxy.

“He said I was taking it too seriously, so I threw him out of my house,” Larson said, recalling her determination to beat the final level uninterrupted.

A newly released trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie offers a first look at Rosalina in action. In the Mario games, Rosalina watches over the cosmos from the Comet Observatory, becoming one of Mario’s closest allies.

The returning cast includes Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Charlie Day (Luigi), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek). Benny Safdie joins as Bowser Jr., who appears to be the movie’s primary antagonist.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie lands in theaters on April 3, 2026. Nintendo is celebrating early by re-releasing Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Switch.
