Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remake Could Launch Sooner Than Expected

A new report claims that the long-rumored Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake could launch before March 31, 2026.

According to an Insider Gaming report, later corroborated by Eurogamer, the information surfaced following Ubisoft’s delayed earnings report. That report referenced one “unannounced game” set to release before the end of Ubisoft’s fiscal year on March 31, 2026.

Insider Gaming claims this mystery title is the Black Flag remake, with a planned release window during the week of March 23, 2026. Ubisoft has not officially commented on the report.

Speculation surrounding the remake has been building since apparent leaks first emerged in June 2023. A Pure Arts livestream in March 2025 may have confirmed the project’s existence, while Edward Kenway voice actor Matt Ryan later hinted at the game in June 2025.

If the reports are accurate, the remake will reportedly exclude modern-day story sections but include additional narrative content. Until Ubisoft makes an official announcement, however, all details remain unconfirmed.

Naval combat in Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag

Originally released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is widely regarded as one of the strongest entries in the franchise. The game follows Edward Kenway, a pirate-turned-Assassin whose journey takes him across the Caribbean in a story defined by naval combat, exploration, and swashbuckling action.

Edward is also the grandfather of Assassin’s Creed III protagonist Ratonhnhaké:ton (Connor Kenway), tying Black Flag closely into the series’ larger lineage.

In other franchise news, Ubisoft says Assassin’s Creed Shadows continues to perform well following its March launch. Despite an earlier delay tied to backlash surrounding one of its protagonists, the game has received steady post-launch support.

September’s Claws of Awaji expansion added new story content and weapons for both playable characters, while a recent patch introduced an advanced parkour option for more fluid traversal. Ubisoft has stated that the Assassin’s Creed franchise as a whole has exceeded expectations.

If the Black Flag remake is indeed set to launch before the end of Ubisoft’s fiscal year, an official announcement is likely not far off.
