Netflix and Ubisoft are making an Assassin's Creed TV series, and the cast is coming together ahead of the start of production in 2026. So far, three stars for the Assassin's Creed TV show have been confirmed, but as of yet, no roles have been announced. For now, here's who we know will appear on the show: Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Lola Petticrew, and Laura Marcus.
Wallace is known for his roles in the movies The Bikeriders and Babyteeth, while Hart is perhaps best known for the Apple TV show Slow Horses. Petticrew, meanwhile, starred on the TV series Say Nothing. Marcus previously appeared in Death by Lightning and will be in next year's Hunger Games movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Filming for the untitled Assassin's Creed show is expected to begin next year in Italy, which will also be a setting for the show. However, the time period for the series is unknown. The games jump throughout history and the modern day, so the show could explore any number of historical periods or focus on contemporary storylines.
As announced previously, Roberto Patino (Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo) are the showrunners for the untitled Assassin's Creed show. In 2023, the previous showrunner, Jeb Stuart, quit the show over a "difference in vision." This change in leadership suggests that the series has undergone significant creative evolution since its initial announcement.
Before this, 20th Century Fox produced 2016's live-action Assassin's Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender, and it made more than $240 million worldwide. It reportedly had a budget of $120 million. The film's performance demonstrated that there's an audience for Assassin's Creed content beyond the games, though the critical reception was mixed.
In addition to this new live-action series, Netflix is producing an animated series based on Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft is also developing a new Assassin's Creed game for Netflix Games. This multi-platform approach shows Ubisoft's commitment to expanding the franchise across different media formats and reaching audiences who may not be traditional gamers.
Another Ubisoft franchise, Far Cry, is getting a TV show as well—it was recently ordered to series for Hulu. This expansion of Ubisoft properties into television suggests that the company sees significant value in adapting its game franchises for streaming platforms, potentially creating new revenue streams and expanding brand awareness.
Assassin's Creed Shadows is the newest entry in the series, having released back in March. Next up for the series could be a remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, reportedly called Resynced. There are multiple other new Assassin's Creed games in the works, including the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade, the 16th century-set Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, and a multiplayer game supposedly titled Assassin's Creed Invictus.
The combination of new games, a live-action series, and an animated series demonstrates Ubisoft's comprehensive approach to the Assassin's Creed franchise. By expanding into multiple media formats, the company can reach different audiences and provide various entry points into the Assassin's Creed universe.
The casting announcements, while not revealing specific roles, suggest that the series will feature a diverse ensemble cast. The actors' previous work in both film and television indicates that Netflix and Ubisoft are investing in experienced performers who can bring depth to the Assassin's Creed world.
As production approaches, fans can expect more details about the series' plot, setting, and how it will connect to the broader Assassin's Creed universe. The choice of Italy as a filming location and setting suggests that the series may explore historical periods that have been popular in the games, such as Renaissance Italy or other significant moments in European history.
