The Far Cry television series has been officially confirmed and will air on FX and Hulu. The project brings together It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob Mac and Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley to adapt Ubisoft's popular video game franchise for television. Earlier this year, Ubisoft accidentally revealed that development was underway, but the project is now moving forward officially.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Far Cry will follow an anthology format similar to Fargo, the series that Hawley brought to FX more than a decade ago. FX has confirmed that each season of Far Cry will feature a new setting and a completely new cast of characters. Mac, who was formerly known as Rob McElhenney, will serve as executive producer and star in the series' first season.

Ubisoft's official Far Cry account quickly shared the news, noting that Far Cry stories always escalate and that FX took that personally. The announcement described the series as a brand-new Far Cry anthology coming to Hulu with a whole new setting, new cast, and the exact level of chaos that might concern therapists.

Hawley expressed enthusiasm about the project in a statement, explaining that what he loves about the Far Cry game franchise is its anthology nature. He noted that each game represents a variation of a theme, similar to how each season of Fargo explores different variations on a theme. Hawley described creating a big action show that can change from year to year while always exploring the nature of humanity through a complex and chaotic lens as a dream come true. He expressed excitement about partnering with Mac and bringing their shared irreverent, ambitious sensibility to the screen.

Mac added that getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized. He praised Ubisoft for being remarkably generous in entrusting them with one of the most iconic video game worlds ever created. Mac also thanked his FX family for continuing to lift him up with their constant belief and support.

FX and Hulu have not yet announced a premiere window for Far Cry. However, Hawley recently signed a new overall deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television that includes Alien: Earth Season 2, indicating a strong ongoing relationship with the network.

In September, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that the future of Far Cry games will place an emphasis on multiplayer. A new Far Cry title has yet to be officially unveiled by Ubisoft, leaving fans waiting for details about the next installment in the game series while the television adaptation moves forward.
