Sony is running a month-long holiday promotion on PlayStation hardware, and one of the standout deals is a rare discount on the PlayStation Portal. The handheld game-streaming device is currently priced at $179, down from its usual $200 retail price, making this one of the best chances yet to pick it up at a reduced cost.

Available in both Midnight Black and White, the PlayStation Portal combines an 8-inch LCD display with integrated DualSense controller grips. This design allows players to enjoy full PlayStation-style controls while streaming games over a Wi-Fi connection. The device is lightweight, well-balanced, and designed for extended handheld play sessions.

Originally, the PlayStation Portal required a PS5 console for Remote Play, meaning games had to be streamed directly from your home console. A recent system update expanded its functionality by enabling full cloud streaming support. With this update, users with an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription can stream thousands of supported titles directly from Sony’s cloud without needing their PS5 turned on.

The Portal’s 8-inch screen delivers sharp visuals, while the built-in controller grips support adaptive triggers and haptic feedback—the same immersive features found on the standard DualSense controller. Sony has also refined the interface to make switching between cloud streaming and PS5 Remote Play quicker and more intuitive.

As long as you have a stable, high-speed Wi-Fi connection, the PlayStation Portal can stream games smoothly with minimal input lag. Cloud streaming requires PlayStation Plus Premium, and thousands of games are currently supported, spanning multiple PlayStation generations.

Sony also introduced PlayStation Link technology with the PS Portal, enabling low-latency, lossless wireless audio. This makes the device compatible with PlayStation’s latest wireless audio accessories, offering a seamless listening experience without noticeable delay.

PlayStation Pulse Audio Accessories

Two PlayStation Link-compatible audio options are currently discounted alongside the PS Portal. The Pulse Explore wireless earbuds are available for $169, reduced from $200, while the Pulse Elite wireless headset is priced at $129, down from $150.

The Pulse Explore earbuds feature Tempest 3D Audio support, dual hidden microphones for voice chat, and up to five hours of battery life on a single charge. Multiple ear tip sizes are included to help ensure a secure and comfortable fit.

The Pulse Elite headset offers longer battery life, spatial audio support, and a retractable microphone. Built with premium materials, it also includes useful accessories such as a USB-C charging cable, PlayStation Link adapter, and a wall-mounted charging hanger.

If you do not have a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, the PlayStation Portal will still function as a Remote Play device, streaming games directly from your PS5 console. Sony has also discounted PS5 console models during the holiday sale, making it easier to pair the Portal with a new system if needed.

PS5 Black Friday Deals

Beyond hardware, Sony’s holiday sale extends to a wide range of PS5 games, including major exclusives and recent releases. Many titles are discounted into the $20–$30 range, offering significant savings for players building out their digital or physical libraries.

Overall, the PlayStation Portal is becoming a more versatile device thanks to cloud streaming support and improved system features. While it remains a companion product rather than a standalone console, the current Black Friday discount makes it more appealing for players who want flexible ways to enjoy their PlayStation games away from the TV.
