007 First Light, IO Interactive’s upcoming take on the James Bond universe, has been pushed back slightly. The game was originally scheduled to launch on March 27, but the studio has confirmed a new release date of May 27, giving the team a couple of extra months for polish.
In a statement shared on social media, IO Interactive said 007 First Light is its most ambitious project to date. The developer explained that the additional time will help ensure the game delivers the kind of high-quality experience players expect on day one, especially given the scale of its action, globe-trotting locations, spycraft, gadgets, and cinematic set pieces.

According to IO, the game is already fully playable from start to finish, meaning the delay is focused purely on refinement and long-term stability. As an independent developer and publisher, the studio said the decision was made to protect the overall quality of the experience rather than rush it out the door.
The delay also reflects the pressure surrounding the project. Bond is one of the most recognizable characters in pop culture, and IO’s interpretation represents something of a reboot. This version of James Bond is portrayed as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless MI6 recruit who earns a chance at the famed Double-O program after an act of heroism.

While IO Interactive’s Hitman DNA is clearly present, 007 First Light leans more heavily into traditional action than Agent 47’s methodical assassinations. Expect gunfights, fistfights, explosions, car chases, and an array of classic Bond gadgets. The game has already revealed its first villain as well, played by Lenny Kravitz.
With the delay, 007 First Light is now roughly five months away instead of three—a relatively short wait that IO hopes will pay off. Further updates on the game are expected to be shared in early 2026.
