Battlefield Redsec launched recently, and among the complaints was that the battle royale game has no solos playlist. One may be coming, however.
Design director Justin Wiebe told IGN, "I would say keep your ear to the ground on the future of solos." But for now, Wiebe wanted to explain why Redsec doesn’t currently include a solos option.
Wiebe explained that Redsec was built fundamentally as a “squad-based experience,” and adding solos isn't as simple as flipping a switch. “In my mind, that's not something you just turn on and say, ‘OK, solos,’” he said.
He continued: “There needs to be enough thought put into it because we built a squad-based experience. At its foundation, the game was designed for squads to play together, with each having tactical abilities, options, and training paths that unlock new perks. Many perks are oriented toward helping the squad, not the individual.”
According to Wiebe, simply adding solos without reworking these mechanics would feel like “a fail,” because many abilities wouldn't apply meaningfully when playing alone.
If solos were ever added, he emphasized that it would need to be done “in a way that makes sense for players, that actually takes the mechanics and makes them work for making solos play better.”
For now, Redsec offers Duos and Squads playlists, while Gauntlet mode supports teams of four.
Meanwhile, Battlefield 6 continues to expand in Season 1 with the California Resistance update arriving November 18, which introduces the new Eastwood map.
