Witcher Game Voice Actor Praises Liam Hemsworth's Performance as Geralt

Netflix's The Witcher series underwent a significant change for its latest season, with The Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth replacing Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt. Doug Cockle, who provided the voice for Geralt in The Witcher video games, has shared his thoughts on the casting change, stating that Hemsworth has done a fantastic job taking over for Cavill and has successfully made the role his own.

Cockle told GamesRadar that he loved Henry Cavill and considered him a fantastic Witcher, specifically as Geralt, so he was sad to see him go. However, after watching the newest season, Cockle believes Liam holds up pretty well. He noted that Hemsworth is different from Cavill, but that he's made it his own character, which is what he should have done as an actor. Cockle concluded that he thinks Hemsworth has done a fantastic job in the role.

Cavill announced in 2022 that he was leaving The Witcher, which shocked and dismayed fans of the fantasy television series. An online petition gathered hundreds of thousands of signatures asking for Cavill to return to the show. Around this same time, Cavill announced that he would come back to play Superman again, but that return ultimately did not materialize.

The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich revealed that one idea was to end the show after Cavill's departure, but the production team was not interested in pursuing that option. The producers also stated they did not want to continue the story by focusing on a different Witcher character. Instead, they chose to stick with Geralt and recast the role with Hemsworth. Hemsworth will also star in the fifth and final season of the series, which doesn't have a release date yet but isn't expected to arrive soon.

As for The Witcher game series, CD Projekt is currently developing The Witcher 4 and collaborating with Fool's Theory on a remake of the first game in the series. These projects will continue the franchise's legacy in the gaming world while the television adaptation moves forward with its new lead actor.
