Sony Says Its Best-Selling PS5 Game Is Still Coming

Five years into the PS5’s lifecycle, Sony believes the console’s biggest-selling game hasn’t even launched yet. In a new interview with BBC News, PlayStation senior VP of marketing Eric Lempel said the platform is “really hitting our stride now,” adding that the PS5’s eventual top-seller is “still to come.”

At the moment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 holds the title of best-selling PS5 game in the US, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Big exclusives such as Marvel’s Wolverine and Saros are in development, but analysts expect GTA 6 to break sales records when it arrives—despite its delay to November 2026. GTA 5 remains the second-best-selling game of all time, with 220 million units shipped as of November 2025, and will return to the PS Plus Game Catalog later this month.

PS5 lifetime sales have reached 84.2 million consoles, and Sony CFO Lin Tao says the system may only be halfway through its life. Sony’s latest earnings report also confirmed Ghost of Yotei has sold 3.3 million units, while the company took a $204 million loss due to Destiny 2 underperforming.
