Arc Raiders Unexpected Initiative Quest Guide

The Unexpected Initiative quest in Arc Raiders sends you into the Buried City in search of two specific items: Fertilizer and a Water Pump. While the objectives are simple, they require visiting two nearby points of interest, so knowing their precise locations will make the run much smoother.
Although the quest provides both items automatically once you interact with them, you can also turn in versions from your personal stash if you’d rather. However, the quest must still be completed within a single Buried City raid, meaning you’ll have to visit each location regardless. To ensure you keep both items even if extraction goes wrong, consider bringing an augment that grants two safe pockets.
Here’s where to find both items needed for the Unexpected Initiative quest.
Where to find Fertilizer at the Grandioso Apartments
Grandioso Apartments are found on the western edge of the Buried City. This large residential area typically attracts plenty of raiders thanks to its high-tier loot, so stay cautious as you approach. Expect company.

Once inside, ride the inner zipline up to the top floor. From there, climb the stairs to reach the rooftop garden.
Fertilizer location
You’ll find the Fertilizer inside the orange planters on the rooftop. Once secured in a safe pocket, head toward Piazza Roma for the second objective.
Where to find a Water Pump in the broken rooftop gardens at Piazza Roma
Piazza Roma sits just northeast of Grandioso Apartments, making the trip short and relatively safe. The POI covers several buildings, but you’ll want to locate the one marked in the image below. It’s not a heavily traveled spot, so you may not encounter other raiders unless they’re also on the same quest.
Piazza Roma building location
Once you arrive, walk between this building and the structure beside it until you spot a yellow ladder. This ladder is the fastest way up, taking you directly to the rooftop. You can enter through the interior if you prefer, but the ladder is much quicker.
Take the yellow ladder to reach the roof efficiently.
On the rooftop, look for the Water Pump positioned beside the large planters in the corner. Grab it, stash it in your safe pocket, and you’re ready to extract.

With both items obtained, head to the nearest active metro station and extract back to Speranza to complete the quest and continue your progression.
